B&W

The Danish engineering and shipbuilding company B&W (Burmeister & Wain) was founded in Copenhagen in 1843. In 1872, the company established its own shipyard. In 1898, the company received a license to build a diesel engine. In 1912, the breakthrough came with diesel ship propulsion for the world's first seaworthy motor ship. From then on, the company grew to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of diesel engines. B&W was absorbed as a company into MAN Diesel Turbo, where it is now only used as a brand name.
